Education and training

Dr. Jain completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, followed by super-specialty training in Surgical Gastroenterology at Lakeshore Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Kochi, where he was awarded the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) by the National Board of Examinations.

He further specialised in HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation through a rigorous one-year fellowship at Fortis Hospital, Noida, Fortis Escorts Hospital, New Delhi, and Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Experience

Dr. Divakar Jain is a highly accomplished surgeon with over 15 years of experience in managing complex conditions of the liver, pancreas, and biliary system. He is especially renowned for his expertise in liver transplantation and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery.

Dr. Jain began his career in medical education, serving for five years as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Medical College, Rajkot, and Government Medical College, Surat, where he trained numerous students in advanced surgical techniques.

He has since worked with several leading healthcare institutions across India, including:

  • Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram
  • Dr. B. L. Kapur Memorial Hospital, New Delhi

Dr. Jain was instrumental in establishing a comprehensive HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation Program at KD Hospital, Ahmedabad, which he successfully led for three years. He now serves as Senior Consultant & Head of HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Shalby Multispecialty Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jain has been involved in more than 800 liver transplant procedures, including living donor, deceased donor (cadaveric), pediatric, and ABO-incompatible liver transplants. He also has extensive experience in all forms of complex liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and pancreatic surgeries.

Fellow Membership

Dr. Divakar Jain is a founder member of Liver Transplantation Society of India (LTSI) and is also a member of International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS). He is also a Fellow of American College of Surgeons, reflecting his commitment to global surgical standards and excellence.

Dr. Divakar Jain is a distinguished surgeon with over 20 years of experience in the management of complex liver, pancreatic, and biliary diseases, including both benign and malignant conditions. He is a leading expert in liver transplantation and advanced hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery. His surgical expertise spans all forms of complex liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and pancreatic surgeries.

Dr. Jain’s pioneering contributions include:

  • Gujarat’s first and only ABO-incompatible liver transplant in a 1.5-year-old child
  • Gujarat’s only Combined liver transplants with cardiac bypass surgeries
  • Gujarat’s only successful Liver retransplantation
  • Gujarat’s first successful Cadaveric combined liver and kidney transplant in a private hospital setup
  • Dual lobe liver transplant – a first for the state of Gujarat
  • Successful liver transplants in patients ranging from 5 years to 72 years of age

His core interests include donor safety, paediatric liver transplantation, and transplant immunology.
